Top Documentaries on Health and Nutrition

Everyone loves to Netflix and chill especially when the weather isn’t the best. On Netflix, I love watching the latest top documentaries on health and nutrition. Below is a brief summary of some of my favorite top documentaries about the food industry, living an organic lifestyle and obesity in America.   Top Documentaries on Health and Nutrition Food Inc. –  The Oscar nominated documentary sheds light on the current American food industry. If you ever wondered where some soy allergies and e-coli concerns came from, this will make you think twice about processed foods and be apart of the “eat local” movement. Forks over Knives–The feature film Forks Over Knives examines the profound claim that most, if not all, of the degenerative diseases that afflict us can be controlled, or even reversed, by rejecting animal-based and processed foods. The film follows the journey of  numerous sick patients taking the leap to ditched their ziplock bags of medications and opted for a plant-based diet. Fat, Sick and Nearly Dead– This documentary takes you on the journey of an Austrian man as he fasts from solid food for 60 days. He spends 60 days on a 100% juice diet as a method to “restart” his body and change his lifestyle. Be warned, you will want to buy a juicer immediately after witnessing the power of juicing and its benefits for the body. Food Matters – Food Matters is a 2008 documentary film about nutrition. The film presents the thesis that a selective diet can play a key role in treating a range of health conditions such as diabetes, cancer, heart disease. Vegucated – Vegucated is a documentary film that explores the challenges of converting to a vegan diet. It “follows three meat- and cheese-loving New Yorkers who agree to adopt a vegan diet for six weeks.” If you are doing the 30 day vegetarian challenge then you will identify with this documentary. FedUp –  Filmmaker Stephanie Soechtig and journalist Katie Couric investigate how the American food industry may be responsible for more sickness than previously realized. This documentary sheds light on the effects of sugar within the body and brain. Try signing up for the 10-day sugar-free challenge for a personal eye-opening experiment.   I will update this list as I continue to learn and watch more. Any suggestions?

Three Things I Learned at the Bella Kinks DFW Expo

This weekend, Julian of Bella Kinks hosted the first Bella Kinks DFW Natural Hair Expo, an annual event bringing together women with Afro and Multi textured hair in the Dallas Fort Worth area. Bella Kinks’s mission is to highlight the natural hair community as the preferred lifestyle option as well as provide resources to the natural community of Dallas and Fort Worth Texas. A weekend focused on natural hair care workshops, product education, live entertainment, culture, food and a whole lot of FUN! I had such an amazing time this weekend and can’t wait till next year. Make sure you take a  look at the gallery of photos and then check out the three things I learned at the Bella Kinks DFW Expo. Be Open. The Bella Kinks DFW Expo weekend is focused on education so it’s important attendees keep an open mind and soak up as much as they can from the instructors. You cannot be openminded during this weekend. I can’t count how many people spoke to the importance of being flexible and open in order to grow natural hair and in life. At the Bloggers lounge presented by Curls, many of my fellow bloggers agreed that being open to a variety of possibilities has helped us connect with our followers, increase business and enjoy life. This weekend was filled with lots of events so take advantage of each workshop, try new products and be open. Be Honest. This weekend was EXTRA special because I revealed my new FitHair method for achieving successful hair from the inside-out to the public. Yay! I loved both of my sold-out sessions because everyone was honest about their journey to achieve healthy hair and body.  I had such a great time meeting you all and blowing your mind away about water. (If you missed the session, I am recording a few videos of the things I spoke about.) Attendees were very honest with their feedback and it made each session perfect. Whether you’re attending a session or learning about a new product from a company, being honest will result in the best assistance from companies and instructors. Also, special thanks to my sponsors Eat Organic DFW, Beyond Meat and Roots Juice for providing coupons, swag and delicious healthy food and juices!  Be Supportive.  The POWER panel was nothing short of sheer power. It was filled with so many takeaways from the cast of CEO women in the beauty and hair industry. A big lessons I took was the importance of being supportive to and of one another and  the brands. It was eye opening to see other “competitors” discussing how they support one another consistently through the ups and down within the industry. This quote from Texture Talk sums up the panel’s focus. All roads to success were different, but the common purpose was the same: to SERVE OTHERS – Charlene Walton, TexturedTalk™ The women discussed how we as women are at advantage and can write our own paths within this world. It will take a lot of hard work and even more support but each person focused on desire to meet a need and were there to serve each other.  Another moment, was admiring Obia of Obia Natural Haircare. I recall several years ago meeting her with nothing but a dream, a great product and faith. Five years later, she is running a fantastic company and sells all over the world. #girlboss Overall, this was a great weekend that pushed me to make my dreams a reality and continue to support my fellow friends and bloggers along the way. I can’t wait till next year and am already gearing up for some new material and things to share. Thanks to all who attended. 3 Sports Bras for Large Breasts

If you haven’t noticed, I “suffer” from large breast syndrome. HA! It sucks but until/unless I have surgery to decrease them, I have had to live with them. Run with them. Swim with them. Bike with them. Sleep with them. You get the picture. I am a firm believer in wearing the right size bra and type when it comes to exercising. Let me also mention  I am petite so it makes finding a bra even more difficult. This has resulted in me becoming a guru or expert in picking sports bras for women who have large breast. Hopefully, this blog post will help you on your fitness journey by offering a few sports bras to tame those bad boys. Recently,  I attended the Title Nine Bra Fit Fest for the Media. (Don’t worry they are having a special one for the public on October 7 & 8 in Dallas, Texas. See below for more details.) Title Nine is dedicated to finding the right sports bras for us fitness chics. The best part was being with my fellow founding Dallas Fitness Ambassadors as we took the bras for a fitness spin. Title Nine has tested thousands of bras and found just the right ones to support our workouts and our curves, whether you’re a 32AA or a 40EEE. The company has hands on expert bra fit specialists –bravangelists– to get women in the right bras in local stores across the country. For those of you who don’t have a Title Nine in your area you can also check out their online Bra Genie. I like their 360 Guarantee. If for any reason or no reason, you are not happy with your T9 purchase, send it round-trip within a year for an exchange or full refund. No questions. No hassles. No kidding. How cool is that? BTW: If you are old school and want to ring them they also have bravangelist by phone at 800-342-4448. Welp! If I am going to talk about large breasts, I might as well show you mine and the bras I took for a spin. (Note this bra was awesome but the wrong size, which is why the bravangelists are soo helpful!) So here are my top three sports for large breasts. Top 3 Sports Bras for Large Breasts 7 Wonders Bra – This bra has managed to put all the 7 wonders of the sports bra world into one bra: racerback, molded cups for shape and modesty, front adjust straps, bonded seams on straps, neckline and armhole, back close for easy off and on, and seamless cups to avoid chafe. This Moving Comfort bra comes in almost 7 different colors and and will make your bras feel truly wonderful. 3 Reasons Bra – This is my favorite bra by Moving Comfort. While I have more than three reasons as to why you should buy it, I am going to give you three reasons at least. 1st: The adjustable straps and back closure make this the most customizable bra, which translates to a better fit for you. 2nd: The super support this bra offers will keep D and DD cups from bouncing, even in high-impact activity. 3rd: This bra will keep you cool and dry, with wicking fabrics throughout. I run and workout mostly in this bra. I bought two more in different colors at Title Nine that same night. #INLOVE FYI: This used to be called Fiona  by Moving Comfort.  Aero Sports Bra: This was a new bra for me and I fell in love with it this bra because it’s SO LIGHT! Be forewarned, the Aero sports bra will prop those coconuts up. The sizing is a bit odd so be sure to get a Title Nine bravangelists to ensure the right fit. The best features of the aero bra are the all-mesh back, ventilated sections of the bra and sizes going up to 40F makes this a must have bra for anyone with large breasts. Win a Free Bra! Special Invite & Giveaway   I want to personally invite each and every one of you to get a personalized bra fit with a Title Nine Bravangelist at Title Nine Dallas’s Fit Fest on Wednesday, October 7 and Thursday, October 8. You can RSVP at bit.ly/T9Dallas_fitfest or contact the store at (214) 443-0201, and take part in this life changing experience, complete with fun “Bounce-athalon” activities and other surprises that you can only experience if you go! Also for those of you who can’t make it, the kind folks at Title Nine are offering my readers a free sports bra. All you have to do is follow the steps below. a Rafflecopter giveaway FTC: This blog post is not sponsored. Title Nine was kind to invite me out to their media/bloggers night for a review of the store. They are offering my readers/followers a free bra. All opinions are my own.

6 Fitness Tips for Stress Free Fall Training

Fall is around the corner; however, we still have many more weeks of hot and humid days ahead. Unfortunately, the weather can make things even more confusing if you’re starting a new training program. Don’t fret! I have you covered. I reached out to the folks over at Six:02 to help put together some essentials to help you train stress free. (Especially if you’re training for their upcoming 6k)! 6 Fitness Tips for Stress Free Fall Training Check out my easy six fitness tips will help you transition from summer to fall and keep you stress free for hitting the pavement. Purchase Transitional Fitness Clothes Purchase fitness clothes for a variety of temperatures. I highly recommend long tanks, as they are breathable, easy to layer and very stylish. Capri tights are always a go-to as they are perfect for any season and workout. Don’t Forget Sunscreen is Vital You can get sunburn in any season so don’t forget to apply sunscreen. According to the Skin Cancer Foundation, sunscreen is one of the most vital items used in helping to reduce skin cancer and other skin diseases. Switch Out Shoes Since your feet are slightly bigger in the summer and smaller in the winter, now is the perfect time to have a foot analyst and purchase new running (or fitness) shoes. I recommend always having two sets of shoes as a runner so that you can rotate each week or as needed. Replace or Purchase Workout Essentials Now is the perfect time to replace any old electronics, hydration bottles, socks, towels and other fitness items you may use daily. With newer models releasing and tons of fall sales, stock-up and prepare for the upcoming training season. Hydrate. Hydrate. Eat. Hydrate. Don’t forget to hydrate and replenish the body with healthy seasonal foods after a workout to replenish your hair and body. My go-to post workout meal is a hearty salad and coconut water.   Prep for On the Go Now that fall is around the corner, I am extremely busy with events, trips and meetings. I always keep a protein bar and fruit in my bag to ensures, I won’t reach for the tempting M&Ms while out. Quest, Lara, and Kind Bars are some of the most popular ones. DISCLOSURE: Six:02 sent me several items within this blog post; however, the company did not pay or sponsor my writings. The opinions and text are all mine.

THRIFT IN STYLE – DALLAS RECAP

A woman with true style can wear an outfit from a thrift store and kill off every label wearing woman in the room. That was the motto I learned when attending the first Thrift In Style Dallas event. Thrift inStyle is a new  community for the Fashionably Frugal and host exclusive social events to Thrift, Laugh & Learn the art of looking stylish.  With a bus full of Dallas’ hottest thrifters and stylists and a personal driver, this event aimed to expand the minds and opinions of thrifting in the big city.      The event was co-hosted by Jessica Ayers , Alexandria Gilliard  of The Garb Dynasty Style Concierge, and Prescilla Collins of PresciStyles. The ladies were amazing and so hands on! It was like having a sale for hiring four stylist without paying them individually!!  We went to a variety of thrifting locations such as  Dolly Python,  which is a truly unique and authentic vintage store. For lunch break, we hung out at Klyd Warren Park; which is filled with restaurants, pet area, food trucks, loads of water fountains and play areas to entertain the kids and the kids-at-heart. I ended up eating at the Nammi food truck because I love there Vegetarian Tacos and homemade lemonade. Overall, it was a great event and I will be visiting several thrifting stores in the area. If you are in Dallas area, here are some of the popular thrift stores recommended by the stylists. Salvation Army Thrift Store   12895 Josey Ln #245, Farmers Branch, TX St. Vincent de Paul Thrift Store   3052 W. Northwest Highway  Dallas, TX 75220 Thrift Giant 1145 E.
