Simple Pineapple Watermelon Salad

Summer is here and I am spending a lot of time in the kitchen cooking. Everything is so fresh and tasting its best. One of my favorite obsessions for the summer are pineapples.  I have been eating pineapples with everything – Everything!!!!  Simple Pineapple Watermelon Salad       Today, I figured I would share a quick post on one of my easy lunch meals that are sure to satisfy your summer taste buds but also keep you fit and healthy. I cut up fresh watermelon and pineapples. Once cut up I added cheese (feta, goat, any of your favorite or omit) with lime juice and mixed everything together. You can also garnish with mint and even add a little bit of cracked pepper for a kick.     Cheese is a great vegetarian option for post-workout snack or with a nice healthy sandwich. With natural ingredients and up to 8 grams of protein per serving, you can ensure you are having enough protein in your daily diet. Protein is one of the building blocks of hair. If you don’t get enough, your hair can and will often grow  slower and could possibly be much weaker.   If you are a cheesehead like myself, the folks at Sargento are offering you a free subscription to Women’s Health Magazine. It’s simple and doesn’t cost you anything out the ordinary. If you are like me, I normally buy two types of cheese. If you are, then hold on to those recipes because any two qualifying Sargento snack products  will allow for you to get a one-year subscription to Women’s Health Magazine totally free.  Find your perfect snack match: http://www.sargento.com/real-life/wholesome-snacks/string-stick Here are some other great ideas on how to enjoy Summer Snacking One Girl’s Point of View of the Perfect Snack Snack Time   As a Women’s Health Action Hero (#whactionhero), I get a chance to try and partner with various companies. I was given a complimentary coupon; however, this blog post is not sponsored. As always, all opinions are my own.

FitHair Heads to the New Orleans Natural Hair Expo

This past weekend, I had the pleasure of spending the 4th of July weekend in the New Orleans’s Natural Hair Expo for Essence Festival. I had the opportunity to co-host the 2nd Annual #EatForYourHair event with HoneyBeNatural and discuss the importance of healthy hair from the inside out.     FitHair Heads to the New Orleans Natural Hair Expo After a short trip on Southwest, I checked in the hotel and spent too much money the first night on delivery. The following day, I took an uber to the local Walmart to pickup food for next few days in New Orleans. I was focused a lot of budget during the trip and was proud of sticking with $10 a day. Here are a few ideas on how to travel as a vegetarian on a low budget.     While shopping at Walmart, I stopped and the famous Daiquiris, which is the home of the 190 Octane. If you are familiar with Fat-Tuesdays then you know it’s a favorite place. I had a small blend and made sure to not only eat and drink water but also ensure I had my 10 thousand steps completed.     Saturday was the big day. I was so excited to be presenting along side the 2nd #Eatforyourhair workshop at the @neworleansnaturalhairexpo, as it was the first time presenting outside of Dallas. The session was filled with men and women who were ready to learn all about how to have healthy hair from the inside out. Fruit and veggies provided by the fantastic @tastefull_designs who incorporated my @thefithair shirt into the awesome platter.       We had a plater of various fruits for attendees to try. One of my favorite fruits is Watermelon. Watermelons are full of vitamins such as Vitamin A, B6 and C, which contribute towards healthy skin, aiding the immune system, and benefitting from antioxidants     After speaking, I exercised and walked over to the popular Cafe du Monde. Cafe du Monde is world famous for its cafe‘ au lait, beignets, and is a perfect place to people watch. This was my first time having the famous beignets, and they were worth the wait.       Monique Herbert also known as It’s Me Moe is the Founder and CEO of the New Orleans Natural Hair Expo. The expo had great vendors, workshops, and an even better atmosphere. If you are heading down to the great state of Louisiana during the independence holiday, you want to make sure to attend this expo.  Hit the gallery above for more pictures from the expo.

3 Trending FitHair Summer Hairstyles

Summer is officially here, thus it’s time to switch up the hairstyles. I was asked by Weight Watchers® Ice Cream to create some unique tips celebrating the anticipation of the summer season. I couldn’t finish off this series without pointing out the top three trending FitHair styles I am seeing for this summer. Long Braided Ponytails I have seen a lot of long braided styles for many people who are working out. I love how a neat braid paired with a plunging v-neck mesh insert, and high/low hemline makes this style anything but basic. Cornrows Cornrows are a popular hairstyle for 2016. It’s a perfect style no matter the texture, color, or age. On Instagram, @itselkethestallion shows off how cornrows can be worn and flossed no matter the age. This style is perfect for the gym because it stays in place and easy to moisturize and cleanse the scalp. Buns & Bangs This summer, embrace a beautiful and neat bun. From the office to the gym, a perfect sleek bun is here to stay, but jazz it up a bit by adding bangs or color to the front of your hair. In this hairstyle, I have my hair in a bun but left the front out, so it added some texture, color and layer to a boring bun. Perfect for post workout hairstyles. Inspiration for Summer This summer, I have been rocking a lot of curls and buns. I love this hairstyle for hanging out at summer cookouts or just some great alone time on the patio. This summer make sure your having great fruits and enjoying lean meats, which are not only refreshing to your body but also your hair. Be sure to check out some of my favorite desserts, which help not only cool you off but also aid in hair growth. If DIY desserts isn’t your thing, then you can check out a few pre-made alternatives from check out Weight Watchers at your local Target and Walmart and grab a lower calorie and fat version of your favorite cold dessert. 3 Summer Desserts Great for Hair and Body

With temperatures increasing for the summer so are my taste buds for summer desserts. From popsicles to pie, my taste buds are flowing for some great desserts. I was asked by Weight Watchers® Ice Cream to create some unique tips celebrating the anticipation of the summer season so three super easy desserts that benefit both your hair and body. Watermelon     Watermelon is a great option for summer thanks to its high amount of water content. It also contains a significant amount of vitamins A, B6 and C, antioxidants, amino acids, and potassium, which are both great for your hair and body. Blueberries     Blueberries are one of my favorite berries to consume during the summer season. From salads to smoothies to cakes and pies, blueberries can be incorporated in a variety of dishes. Blueberries contain a variety of nutrients such as potassium, vitamin C and B6, which all are essential to hair growth. Blueberries also contain a significant amount of fiber, which helps lower cholesterol in the blood and is said to decrease the risk of heart disease. Yogurt     Yogurt is one of my favorite desserts in the summer because it contains hair vitamins such as B-2 and B-12 but also a great deal of nutrients essential to the body such as calcium, magnesium, and potassium. Greek yogurt is one of my favorites as it can contain up to 15g of protein in one serving and low in calorie. Bonus: So I know some of you might not like bake or make anything so if you don’t find any of these desserts appetizing simply head on over to your local Target and Walmart and grab a lower calorie and fat version of your favorite cold dessert. You can also find the Weight Watchers Dark Chocolate Raspberry Ice Cream Bars, which I enjoyed in the hot summer temperatures. If Raspberry isn’t your thing, they have several other flavors to try. I love this style even more because it’s much easier and healthier on the hair than individual boxed braids or twist.
