The Affordable Sports Bras Guide for Women With Large Breasts

No matter if you are just starting a fitness regimen or training for another race, one thing I know you will need are a few good sports bras. Finding the perfect sports bra isn’t easy for most women. It’s even harder if you are a blessed with larger breast AND on a budget. Most sports bras are at least $55-$85 a pop for women who are larger than DDs and offer max support and comfort. It’s almost impossible, but I am here to say it’s not impossible anymore. I spent over 2 months searching and testing a range of styles and sizes to find great sports bras for those of you who have large breast like me but are affordable. All the sports bras are under $50 and most can be found at half the cost or regularly on sale. SPORTS GUIDE FOR WOMEN WITH LARGE BREASTS In my research, I decided to two this blog post differently. I wanted to offer some sports bra history, show you various sizes and types but then I also wanted to share the importance of being properly fitted each year for your sports bra. I am open and honest so much so; you get to see my process of finding the perfect sports bra for my marathon training. Sports Bra Fitting Tips & Tricks Check out this video where I take you on my bra fitting and how I am finding the perfect sports bra just for me!   Sports Bra Do’s & Don’ts Always buy sports bras with wicking materials instead of cotton. Wicking fabrics move moisture away from your skin and also keep you comfortable. Test your sports bra by actually working out and moving around. Do 10-15 jumping jack and squats! Wash the bra in cold water with mild detergent or hand wash. Avoid drying sports bras as heat breaks down spandex. I hang my sports bras to dry or lay it flat. Most sports bras last anywhere from 6 up to 15 months thus a good rule of thumb is to change sports bras every 6 months to a year. Sports Bras History, Types & Top Picks Dive into this video as the kind folks at Luke’s Locker school me on the history of sports bra, various textures, and types that are best for max support and my top picks for affordable sports bras. My Top Sports Bras are the Hero bras from Rebook and the Fiona and Maia from Brooks Women. I also want to point out the Juno bra. I went back and tried it and like it as well. It’s a great alternative for the Maia and also a bit cheaper too. Compression, Encapsulation or Both Compression: The original sports bra. This bra is best for smaller cups or just walking around. These are often super cheap and can cost you $20 bucks easily. Encapsulation: This is the best for women with larger breast. Sports bras with individual cups aka encapsulated cups are best. They make sure your breast are not smashed together, adjustable and can remove sweat properly from the skin. Both: Many sports bras now are a combination of compression and encapsulation, which offer both supportive and comfortable. These are more expensive so I avoided focusing on these but there are some great ones out there such as Victoria Secrets. Strap Types Racerback: Racerbacks tend to be the best supporting bras for women with larger breast due to the straps clinching in the back. They offer more support and mostly Tank Top: I am not a fan of racer back because they are a pain to get in and out of after a 2-3 hour run. If you are like me, then always look for adjustable, padded and wide strap sports bras to ensure the weight is distributed and supportive. Crisscross: Crisscross have become very popular because they add a pop of “fashion” to a boring tank. They offer decent support and are my pick for yoga and super low impact. Many are adjustable but don’t expect to find a lot of styles or options for larger breast. Most of the crisscross straps are thin, so they are not able to hold up or offer tons of support over an extended period. Special Thanks to Luke’s Locker for helping so much with this post. If you are in the DFW Area pop in and let them know I sent you for to get your complimentary sizing. They also order anything for you if they don’t have it in there store.

Brandless Not Worth The Hype?!

Brandless is a website that has one big mission. with one little $3 price. It’s a site that basically had brandless aka generic/store brand products for one flat price $3. It focuses on the essential products for the kitchen and home. Every  single item in the store is $3. YES. You heard and read it right. Literally every single thing on the site is $3. From can openers to organic granola, it has a little bit for everyone all within a few clicks of a button.  Most of the products is non-geo, organic or free or crazy additives and chemicals. This sounds to good to be true to me. Brandless has gotten a lot of press and crazy fans of the web since launching just a few months ago. As a frugal shopper, I knew this would be the site for me to help keep me right with my budget and on the healthy track. I was super excited and even reached out to the company regarding my upcoming purchase. So I decided to do a review of my first thoughts of what I ordered and much more. Is Brandless Worth the Hype? First Impressions & Unboxing What did I get for $3? Or the Grand Total of 34.50 bucks + Shipping I ordered a few items that were both good for the belly, body, and household from Brandless — and the whole thing was only $34.50. At first, my order was well over $50 bucks, which is part of the problem. Everything is $3, so you feel like you can go HAM on things you think you want and or need. I had to cut out a lot and only got essential items I needed or could use up should I not like them. Here is the list of items I purchased. Multi-Surface Cleaner Dish Soap – wasted and opened Peppermint Mouthwash Can Opener – scratches on it  Organic Oats & Honey Granola Organic English Breakfast Black Tea Fig & Thyme Crisps – can get locally for same price but good  Organic Blue Corn Tortilla Chips (2 bags for $3) Organic Brown Basmati Rice Gochujang Korean Sweet & Spicy Cooking Sauce Organic Poppy Seed Dressing Organic Light Brown Sugar There area few items that are not $3 such as canned beans and chips. They offer those as a certain amount for $3. In this case, the bag of chips were 2 for $3.  The items in bold are the ones I like and say are winners. The ones italicized I liked but were questionable as I noted about them in my video. Shipping, Discounts & Membership Shipping is where things get iffy. It is $9 via FedEx, which comes in about 2-3 days. Not too bad. If you want free shipping, you have to spend $72, so that’s roughly purchasing 24 products at one time. They have a membership called B-Program, which cost $36 bucks a year. It allows you free shipping at $48 instead of the $72 price tag. Additionally, you get a sneak peak at new releases early and access to special events. You can learn more about their B-Program here.  Meh….     A post shared by Alexandria – FitHair Expert (@alexandriawill) on Aug 22, 2017 at 7:05am PDT For first time orders you get shipping at $3 after that it’s $9.  I was so excited when I opened the package but unfortunately it turned into disappointment. It was packaged nicely, but most of my items had some issue with them. From scratches on the can opener to chips and ships and crackers being broken. I think they need to rethink the shipping part especially if I order again and am paying $9. Thanks to shipping issues and most my products looking like they went through hell to get here, I say this is a major FAIL for me. Additionally, by paying $9 for shipping for a little bit over ten products means my items were almost $4 with no way for a refund thanks to the damages. Overall Brandless is a No For Me With Amazon (Prime, Now and Grocery), Trader Joes , Sprouts and Costco all sitting within my finger tips or backyard, I don’t find the need for Brandless. Most of the household items I honestly can purchase at the same price or less even online for name brand products or other ones I trust. Most items that are $3 honestly looked like they were worth $3. I like the packaging of things but most of my items were broken upon arrival or opened and damaged. This is a major fail for me. It get’s a no for me. Save ya coins. ALTERNATIVES FOR BRANDLESS & GREEN CLEANING If you are looking for a site that does have a cool membership and great healthy products for the house. I really love The Grove Collaborative. They have some of the best natural products at great prices, delivered right to your door. It’s my favorite online site to shop for organic, eco-friendly and sustainable items like Dr. Bronner’s, Meyer’s and Seventh Generation. On my first order, I grabbed a special filled with 4 free products – mak ing this FREE 99 for products. Check out why toxic chemicals can affect you hair and my shift to all natural products. Additionally, you can grab $10 bucks to shop on the Grove Collaborative by clicking here.   Disclaimer: I wasn’t contacts nor sponsored for this post or to review Brandless. Paid  for everything out of my pocket.

Crotchet Braids with Faux Locs | Moisturizing Routine

I am so in love with faux locs. I have had them for a few weeks and cannot get enough of them. I have had several questions about how I am maintaining them and keeping my hair moisturized. With so much training and working out, especially in the summer sun, the hair can become very dry and brittle. It is important to protect both your hair and scalp when having any protective hairstyle such as braids, twist, and sew-ins. As such, I made a unique moisturizing routine for my hair with faux locs, which aids in hydrating and preserving the hair and scalp. You can use the products of your choice that best suits your needs. The biggest key in this moisture routine is the use of steam to penetrate the shaft and stimulate the scalp. Items Used The Mane Choice Hair Growth Oil The Mane Choice Tropical Moringa Daily Restorative Spray Q-redrew hair steamer This ultra moisturizing routine is focused primarily for women who work out or are suffering from dry hair due to hotter temperatures. When working out sweating and heat play a big part in losing moisturizer, so it’s critical to add moisture back into the hair on a regular basis. This routine has helped me a lot, and it’s straightforward, relaxing and doesn’t take a lot of time. Night Time Regimen for Faux Locs Bonus: I often do my moisturizing routine before going to bed or in the evenings, so in the video, I also show you how I lock in the moisture at night and reduce frizz or static. My Evolve Satin Hair Wraps is the biggest key to keeping my hair off my face, in place and aid keeping moisture through the night.

Walnuts are one of the best nuts to consume. They are an excellent source of anti-inflammatory omega-3 essential fatty acids,  rich in antioxidants. From Gym to Glam

This week I had a really hard workout and I just couldn’t deal with another wash-and-go yal! I am for real. I just couldn’t. So, I decided to switch it up and hit up a beauty supply store with a few bucks and came home to tame the mane and give me a new look. If you are struggling with your hair, I adore wigs as a great way to keep your hair moisturized and as a quick and easy style. Wigs, Gym, and Quick Hair Style The magic key is to pick out the right wig for your hair texture. I was in a rush so I stopped a local small beauty supply store and found this hidden gem for $19.99! You cannot beat that at all! Most natural hair wigs cost at least 4x this price. This is a BohemiuamWig by Pure Natural Samba #2. It’s about the same price online so still a steal for those of you who can’t find it in the local store. You can catch out the details of how I styled it in 10 minutes on my youtube video but I wanted to show you a close up of the wig with my actual hair. You can’t tell my actual hair from the wig so it looks super natural. After styling and cutting in the video, I put some makeup and bam!! Glammed up! See what $20, 10 minutes and a pair of scissors can do for a girl.

Lululemon Warehouse Sale Tips

Grab your card and get ready, Lululemon Warehouse sale is coming to Dallas in just a few weeks. The Lululemon warehouse sale is a once-a-year event that moves around from city-to-city and is unlike anything else. During this 3-day weekend sale, you can stock up on some amazing items from the retailer. Unlike most outlets or discount sales, Lululemon warehouse sale doesn’t just contain older or discontinued product but items even some current or specialty items. Here are some tips and things you should know before heading to the Lululemon Warehouse Sale in Dallas. Oh yeah, pictures used in the blog are from last year’s sale, which was in Atlanta.    Will shimmy for gear. #ATLrevival pic.twitter.com/pkFFYEamLy — lululemon WHUS (@lululemonWHUS) May 21, 2016 Prices of Lululemon Items During the Warehouse Sale  “Alex really is this a sale and is it worth it?” This is the question I was asked at least 10x last week. Yep! It’s worth it. Lululemon products are pretty expensive. A pair of leggings is easy $100 but during the warehouse sale, you can find them as low as $30-$40. Socks will run you about $9- $10.  The average amount of most products during the warehouse sale are $20-$30 range, which is totally affordable and worth it. Each day there are specialty items, sales and a restock of merchandise so that makes it even better!   Get Your Mind-Set Right & Load of Patience Look it’s a warehouse sale. That means its boxes of products and stuff everywhere including on the floor. Everything you want might not be there so keep an open mind. There will be people trying on clothes right in the middle of the store so be prepared. On Facebook alone, there is expected to be almost 5,000 folks attending and over 12,000 are interested. This is just Facebook but knows everyone and their mommas will be there so gear up for a long wait. People travel from all over to purchase items at the warehouse sale.   Bring A List & Know Your Sizes Don’t go in without any idea of what you need. Make a list of item you need and stick to them. I also recommend going to a Lululemon to know your size beforehand. This makes it easy to grab and go for the items you need. I am not super skinny and I can wear Lulu with no problem. The sizes range from XS to about XL or 0- 12. I am a size 8-10 there so hopefully that gives you some idea of what they offer. You can find a lot of things there that aren’t included n the sizes like the yoga mat, sock and cute scarves and such. There is something for everyone including the men and kids. Also note, you are limited to 25 items so make sure you stick to the list folks. Bring Your Card AND ID Cash is not accepted so make sure to have your credit card or debit card, which Visa, Mastercard & AMEX are accepted. Please note that all sales are FINAL and you must have a photo ID. Cash & gift cards are NOT accepted. Also don’t forget to have a few snacks, bottled water, and charger. Another tip is to wear a maxi dress, skirt or loose pants so if you need to try on something quickly you can asap if you get my drift.   Best Time to Hit the Lulu Warehouse Sale Apparently, at other cities, the longest lines came on opening day – Friday but a few hours later, there wasn’t a line are hardly any. I would say mid-day on Friday seems to be the best time and early on the other days. Make sure you are on the twitter feed. They do random markdowns during the day and last minute sales towards the end of the day at other cities. Don’t Drive There – Ride There It’s going to be a mess so I highly recommend hitting the good ole public transportation – DART. Uber and Lyft are always great options too. Fair Park parking will fill up like no other and the options around the grounds start at $10. You can easily park and ride the DART for $5 round-trip so save that money, honey! Alex Top 5  Must Have Lululemon Items  If you are going to the warehouse sale, here are my top five items you should at least leave with. Tights: This is what Lulu is known for- their pants. I would avoid purchasing shorts, as the pants will last longer and you can get more bang for your bucks with pants (long or capris) year around. Yoga Mat: I am slightly obsessed with their yoga. They are thick and super durable for all types of workouts. Racerback or Tank: There isn’t anything nicer than the perfect racer back and lulu has plenty of them. I would grab one or two that are flattering and also perfect for photos, race day or to stunt at the gym on a cutie. Unique Long Sleeve Shirt or Jacket: I know it’s hot and summer right now but Lulu has some cool cold gear. Grab it now while it’s dirt cheap so you don’t have to worry about it months later. Lululemon Accessory: Accessories like their wraps, scarves and workout bags are definitely unique and needed.  Their bras are a great for adding a splash of flare to your wardrobe. I would make sure to grab one item that you need and is also unique to anything else you might have in your closet. For ladies, this could be one of their unique sports bras. For more information, you can check out the Twitter dedicated to the Warehouse Sale, which also includes sneak peeks and updates: https://twitter.com/lululemonwhus #sweatBIG

3 Tips to Picking the Right Protein Supplement

The Benefits of Natural Ingredients: Every day we learn more about negative effects of synthetic and unnatural ingredients. And we understand more about the real and irreplaceable ingredients that nature can provide. When we eat right – when we eat real – we become our best selves. 3 Tips to Picking the Right Protein Supplement Adequate protein is more than a ticket to a fitter physique. It turns out that consuming protein is important for women when it comes to appearance and long-term health.  Burt’s Bees’ plant-based protein powders are not only more sustainable, but they are also less concentrated and refined than animal protein powders, therefore carrying more macro and micro nutrients from the plant source (e.g. fiber, carbohydrates, phytonutrients). Burt’s Bees Protein provides a complete essential amino acid profile – offering the nine essential amino acids that must be consumed through protein foods – and achieves high digestibility. Look for Labels: When reviewing a daily protein supplement, it is important first to review the labels located on the package. Are you a vegetarian or in need of soy-free? Most companies now will state if they meet your specific dietary needs. There are a variety of supplements that now cater to your specific needs. For example, Burt Bee’s has a variety of protein supplements in various flavors but also specific needs Burt’s Bees Protein +Healthy Radiance – Vanilla or Chocolate Burt’s Bees Protein +Gut Health – Vanilla Burt’s Bees Protein +Daily – Vanilla & Chocolate Review Source: With many protein shakes on the market it’s important to note where the source is coming from.  There are a few brands like, Burt’s Bees Protein, which is formulated with organic ingredients and plant-based protein, requiring fewer natural resources for production and having a less harmful impact on nature. If you are unsure of what brands to look for I recommend picking protein supplements that are both or either USDA or Certified Organic materials as you don’t have to be concerned with loads of pesticides or chemical materials. Taste Test: When picking a protein supplement no matter how good it is, if it doesn’t taste right then you will hate it and loathe to drink it daily. Various proteins supplements taste different depending on if you add water, milk or add it to a smoothie. Purchase a few sample packets and test away before investing in a larger tub or size. This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Burt’s Bees. The opinions and text are all mine.

MisFit Ray Is A Holiday Must Have

It’s officially the holiday season, which means lots of planning, shopping, gifts, and parties. Over the new few weeks, I will be giving you advice on how to stay healthy, gift picks and much more. This week, I want to highlight the popular  premium fitness and sleep tracker, MisFit Ray by Fossil. I couldn’t contain my excitement about receiving the MisFit Ray Rose Gold with gray leather strap. After a few weeks of wearing, testing and working out with it the MisFit Ray, I definitely am making this one of my Holiday Picks for this year. So sit back and get ya tea or juice ready because this a lengthen blog post.   The Ray retails for $99.99 (or $119.99 with the leather strap, as I’ve been wearing it.) It looks like a piece of jewelry but the Ray isn’t just for a cute wrist arm bling. It’s a true fitness tracker as it counts steps, alerts me for sitting too long and even tracks my sleep patterns. Once I initiate Bluetooth to sync the Ray with my phone,  all of this data is backed up to the app on my phone in a few seconds.   The Ray is powered by three small batteries, which are similar to the kinds in most watches. Since it’s battery operated, this means no extra cords or forgetting to charge, which I like a lot. The batteries have last well over a month and are said to last about six months! As far as setup, I did the unboxing on Inst-stories, and most of my followers got a chance to see me go from box to setup within 5 minutes. Fit Features of the MisFit As noted before, the MisFit Ray automatically tracks steps, distance, calories, and light and restful sleep. Additionally, it has the option to vibrate for call and text notifications, movement reminders, and alarms. I liked the vibration and notification for sitting down too long a lot. The Ray came in handy while I was at the movie to see a free screening of Moonlight, which you should see the film too. My cousin was running late so I knew she would call once she arrived. Since this was a screening, they were strict on us not having our phones out period. Since I had on my Ray. When she called, I knew because my wrist vibrated 3x with a flashing light indicating someone was calling me. The light didn’t disturb the other movie goers and no one noticed. Winner!   My favorite feature is tracking my sleeping patterns. Going without adequate sleep can have both short- and long-term consequences Each day I was able to see a charted view of the total amount of sleep and points where I wake up, toss and turn, etc. This is critical as sleep is vital to our overall well-being but also healthy and fit hair. Wear It & Accessorize Up!   The Ray is probably one of the most stylish fitness trackers I have seen. It doesn’t feel like a regular tracker being big and bulky. As stylish as the tracker is, it complimented by tons of more fashionable yet useful accessories. MisFit offers a banded bundle, which include three various styles of bands from waterproof to leather.   The countless accessories ensure you can switch up your style with your outfit or to meet your daily need. The tools for switching come in the accessory pack, which was very convenient. It took me approximately 10-15 minutes to switch the bands. It wasn’t easy but it wasn’t to hard. It’s a learning curve but next time I can do it quicker.   If you don’t like wearing it on your wrist, then you  can wear it on your shoe, pocket or even on your chest thanks to the Ray’s Lariat necklace. The necklace is a 20″ bar-in-loop closure and relatively light, which makes it perfect for layering or being the centerpiece of your outfit. You can wear the Misfit Ray connected at a single end as a drop pendant or at both ends to create a horizontal bar. Becuase I have a larger “blessed” chest, I opted not to do this but to wear the necklace as a stand alone. I know the Ray would be lost in the girls . I just can’t do it, guys. LOL (Luckily, the Ray is waterproof so the sweat wouldn’t destroy it should this happen to you.) Is MisFit Ray for you? So the big question is if the MisFit Ray for you? The short answer is YES. However, the MisFit Ray may not be for you if you fall into two categories. If all of your friends have a FitBit. Unfortunately, most people have a Fitbit, so the community is pretty active and vigorous (almost like a cult.) This may hinder you from purchasing one as you will be the oddball out. For me,  this isn’t an issue and is a positive!  If you desire a direct connection to heart rate monitor or extra stuff. Since the Ray is simple and straightforward, there isn’t aren’t tons of advanced GPS and Fitness tracker/watch options. However, the app that powers it is pretty cool as it links to many other health apps such as Google Health, which links to heart rate monitors and other programs.   If you are looking for a fitness tracker that doesn’t look like most other fitness trackers, doesn’t break the bank, great quality and doesn’t need to be charged daily then the MisFit has my FitHair Stamp of approval. Since it’s the holidays, I would snag it up on the sales and bundles. Oh yeah, it’s on sale for $69.99 via Amazon so get on it, folks. The folks at MisFit sent me a complimentary MisFit Ray and necklace. I purchased the bundle set on my own. All opinions are honest FitHair Fam.
